Discount Calculator
Work out sale prices, savings and final totals — including tax.
About this tool
Figure out what a price drops to after a percentage or fixed-amount discount, how much you save, and what the final price is after tax. Great for shopping, freelancers and small business owners.
How it works
The discounted price is original minus (original × discount% ÷ 100) for percentage discounts, or original minus the fixed amount otherwise. When tax is entered, it is applied on top of the discounted price. The tool always shows the money saved so you can compare deals at a glance.
How to use Discount Calculator
- 1Enter the original price of the item.
- 2Choose whether your discount is a percentage or a fixed amount, then enter it.
- 3Optionally add a sales tax percentage for the true out-the-door price.
- 4Review the discounted price, the total you save, and the price after tax — then copy or share the result.
Examples
A 120 jacket with 30% off saves 36 — you pay 84.
A 20 fixed coupon on a 55 item brings it to 35.
A 200 device with 10% off plus 8% tax costs 194.40.
Pro tips
- Use "fixed amount" for store coupons and "percentage" for seasonal sales.
- If tax is included in the listed price, leave the tax field at 0 to avoid double counting.
- Compare the percentage saved between two discounts by running both — the higher percentage is not always better on a larger base price.
Frequently asked questions
How is the discount amount calculated?
For a percentage discount: original price × discount ÷ 100. For a fixed discount, it is simply the coupon amount. The final price is the original price minus the discount.
Should I include tax?
Only if you want the total you actually pay. In most regions tax is applied to the discounted price, which is what this calculator does.
Is the calculator adding tax to the discounted price?
Yes. The tax is calculated on the price after the discount, which matches how retailers price items in most countries.
